The exploding pagers and walkie-talkies must be one of history's most successful and effective spy operations. Strictly from a tactical and operational perspective, it was a phenomenal success. Over 3000 Hezbollah members were targeted and then killed or injured. It is precision warfare at its finest. What other operation in history has successfully targeted thousands of key individuals with such high accuracy and minimal civilian casualties?

None. The exploding pagers is just the latest example of Israeli ingenuity in warfare, but that ingenuity didn’t start with the modern State of Israel. It can be traced back to its ancient roots and one of its most ingenious fighters and leaders was King David.

King David’s Use of Deception and Irregular Warfare

King David was a military genius who built an empire by defeating enemies much larger than his own. Had David fought wars like his neighbors, Israel would have never transcended tribal feuds to become a great empire. What made David so successful? He was a master of deception and irregular warfare.
